About Aging

Age is Inevitable: The sands of time cannot be stopped, the moment a person is born, aging begins.  As you age, your skin changes—and so should your approach to skincare.

It’s no secret that your skin changes as you age. Whether you notice loss of elasticity or volume, a few fine lines here and there, or discoloration where you didn’t use to have it; the products that worked for you in your early 20s may lose its efficacy even as early as a few years later, and you constantly must adjust your regimen based on your skin’s current needs.

Although you are powerless to the natural process of aging, what is done each day will affect the skin later. The rate at which the skin shows the signs of aging is dependent not only upon chronology and genetics, but also on the environment. And it’s never too late to start and help repair and get your skin back to a healthy condition.

Chronological Aging – As you age naturally several changes take place gradually in the skin. The outermost layer of the skin called the stratum corneum and is filled with proteins (keratin, elastin, & collagen) Fresh new cells are continuously traveling from the lower layers to the upper layers of the epidermis. As they surface, they will have to be sloughed off. As we age the cells are thicker and these dead skin cells need more attention to be removed with some exfoliation. The epidermis also becomes thinner and more transparent as we age. Hormonal changes also contribute to a slower production of sebum in the skin, lack of firmness, and appearance of lines & wrinkles which began to be more noticeable.

Environmental Aging – Most people are born with beautiful skin: however, the lifestyles we lead will have an impact on how the skin ages. Extrinsic factors, such as sun exposure, smoking, improper skincare, lack of sleep and poor nutrition all contribute to pre-mature aging of the skin.

Skin at Every Age – It is important to nourish the skin at every age. Although not as much emphasis is placed on skincare during youth, it is crucial to properly care for the skin early for prevention and regeneration with at -home care using natural ingredients that nourish and heal the skin. It is necessary for everyone to wear sun protection SPF no matter your age. Exfoliation is recommended starting in your teens, and then begin to add into your skincare regimen high quality ingredients in serums and other anti-aging products that rejuvenate, tone, firm and restore moisture for younger-looking skin.
